Our research finds that indigenous peoples are the poorest of the poor but the level of poverty varies by country and indigenous peoples ethnic minorities tribal groups in some parts of the world have been making great gains in recent years china vietnam india while we see more stagnation in other parts especially latin america. Many countries have enacted or attempted to pass legislation supporting the rights of indigenous peoples and countries have directed greater shares of national resources towards education health and poverty reduction programs
